SPORTS :: Texas Tech Coach Bans Twitter!

POST By SDittle
It’s has become the quickest and easiest way to communicate with friends, family, co- workers, and even celebrities… “Twitter”. This is now a no-no for the college players of Texas Tech. Mike Leach the coach of Texas Tech has banned his team from communicating via Twitter. This all stemmed from linebacker Marlon Williams tweeting about the tardiness of a coach to a meeting.
Leach believes that football players receive more than enough attention and Twittering is an unnecessary and distracting action. I am still having a hard time understanding how a coach can tell players that they are unable to Tweet. I can see if the coach advises the players not to Tweet about anything team related, but not to Tweet at all is just a little absurd. Twitter has swept the world and has become a habit and it done every day if not almost all day. I don’t think the coach should be able to make this a rule for this team I could see if it were the rules of NCAA.
Leach also states that any player who has a Facebook page will be closely monitored as well. So, not only is the coach taking away their freedom to express how they feel through a social networking service they will be Facebook stalking as well.
Looking from the coaches’ point of view maybe he is doing this to protect the players. Statements made on Twitter can be used against a player in a negative way. It’s really funny because the coach has his own Twitter!
