Post By SDittle

If anybody knows me I am a big supporter of local talents from Columbus doing their thing; such as actor/actress, model, rapper, singer, and writer. Sometimes as a community I do not think many people support these talents in our city. If we do not support these up and coming stars in our own community how are they ever going to get where they are trying to go. Once a week I am going to feature an interview with a local talent. I am sure most people what to know and hear about already famous talents; we will still keep you stuck in that area, but also provide FlyPaper readers with local talents. This week’s feature is Ja’Mez Burton. Ja’Mez Burton is a model on the mission. Ja’Mez has many obstacles in her way, but will not let any of them keep her from obtaining her dream in becoming a world renowned model.

Ja’Mez has participated in many of model competitions featured in local magazines and even the honor to audition for Americas Next Top Model. With all the hard work and dedication Ja’Mez has put into her modeling career it has been an obstacle due to her height; with a walk the would make Ms. Jay (ANTM) proud, Ja’Mez Burton only stands a mere 5’4” tall. She has been a part of FAME Productions presents Arts Meet Fashion, Gorgeous Gaudy Girl Designer Nyemadi Williams, Fit to be Tyed, 2nd Annual Columbus Model Quest- 1st place Winner of the Print Category, Model Mayhem Groups Shot of the City, and many church fashion shows around the city.

Me: What is your biggest obstacle in becoming a model?

Ja’Mez: There are many obstacles I have noticed in wanting to model. For one, Columbus is not a modeling market for agencies or production companies. Getting to know the right people and continuing to work and take care of myself is one obstacle I will not give up and will have to maintain. On top of knowing the right people I have two challenges being my height and the look. My height is a factor to me because I’m only 5’4 and most runway shows require a girl to be 5’7 or taller. I have long legs but a short torso which doesn’t make me tall enough to for runway. In understanding that I have the opportunity to do more print jobs, I have heard I have a look that could be versatile so my challenge is get over the fact I’m short and work the face I have with the many looks that can come with it.

Me: What actions are you taking to overcome that obstacle?

Ja’Mez: In working to overcome my obstacles of not being in the right city like Miami or L.A, I have been working with people giving the opportunities to have that work brought here. I am not one to just up and leave my situation. In fact I like being a local model face. My dream is to go bigger but it takes steps to get there and that is what I am working on.”
