ALBUM REVIEW :: BUSTA RHYMES - BACK ON MY B.S.

Back To Busta?
“Back on my B.S.” hardly a reflection of a hip-hop legend
Review by DJ Bern
Ever since “Woo Ha” hit Rap City back in the day, it was the high-energy, crazy flow and flamboyant charatcer of Busta Rhymes that kept hip-hop fans tuned into the fierce voice and swift flow. After a long delay and a label change, Busta tries to take it back to his creative roots with his eigth studio album “Back on my B.S.” The end result, however, sounds watered-down and uninspired.
As with every Busta Rhymes release, listeners can expect bouncy and ferocious flow, even on the more mellow tracks. Surprisingly, this album has less of what you’d expect and more songs that have a commercial feel to them. The songs “Hustlers Anthem ‘09” and “World Go Round” definitely don’t sound like anything associated with Busta Rhymes. The legend of Busta still shines bright with cuts like “ We Want In,” “Give Em What They Askin For,” and the mellow cut “Decisions,” but the album doesn’t seem to keep a consistent tone. The tracks together as an album sound more like a compliation album.
Even the life-long Busta Rhymes fans might feel short-changed with “Back on my B.S.” When you attempt to stick a legend of hip-hop into a commercial product like this, the results get scrambled. It would be best next time to keep it true to form, rather than attempt to sell a few albums.
