Back At It Again
‘Relapse’ delivers authentic Marshall Mathers, nothing more, nothing less

After a four-year hiatus, drug rehabilitation, and a hip-hop facelift, fans of Slim Shady have been in limbo waiting on the next album. Since the ‘Encore’ album, the quality of music has changed dramatically, where ring tone and single sales on iTunes are the focal point of most artists. A lot of people were unsure what to expect from Eminem’s ‘Relapse’ album. Well, folks, the album is classic Eminem, and if you’ve been listening over the years, you know what that means.
If you can’t tell from ‘We Made You,’ the first official single from ‘Relapse,’ Eminem hasn’t changed his multi-platinum formula; well-crafted lyrics, shock raps, catchy hooks, and a Dr. Dre beat. This formula is consistent throughout the whole album, which is 90% produced by Dr. Dre, and features almost no other artists. Eminem’s storytelling on songs like “My Mom,” “Beautiful,” and “Insane,” are the same vivid images that were painted on Eminem’s first album, only with an improved brush. Those hip-hop heads out there looking for the flow and delivery that the mainstream listeners tend to ignore in Eminem’s music will find that Slim Shady still brings the dope lyrics, with tracks such as “Déjà vu” and “Old Times Sake.”
Eminem didn’t invent a Slim Shady dance, do a bid for selling drugs, or show his soul with an Auto-Tuned track. He relapsed with what has always worked, fine-tuned with improved penmanship and delivery. He might not see the record sales he is used to experiencing, but ‘Relapse’ still gives fans the fix that they need. Make sure you buy your fix.
