ALBUM REVIEW :: CIARA - ‘FANTASY RIDE’

Bumpy “Ride”
“Fantasy Ride” is more audio pain than pleasure
Review by DJ Bern
Anticipation… is the word that comes to mind when describing the feelings of Ciara fans over the past few years. Since the huge success of “Evolution,” people have been quick to crown Ciara the princess of R&B. However, with her latest release “Fantasy Ride,” fans and critics are taken on a journey through a not-so-magical kingdom.
The first two singles remind us of the talent and range of the Ciara we know and love. “Love Sex Magic” teams Ciara with Justin Timberlake on a quality pop-dance track, while the feature with Young Jeezy titled “Never Ever” gives love advice to young women all over. “Love Surgeon” paints the picture of lights-down-low grinding, and “Work” is the high-tempo, dance crew music that we would expect from Ciara and the featured Missy Elliott. Unfortunately, other songs are predictable, and bland, such as “High Price” with Ludacris, and “Keep Dancin On Me.”
If this “Fantasy Ride” feels familiar, it’s because we’ve all heard it before from previous Ciara releases. While some of the same formulas still produce hits, others are just rehashes of the same ideas and tunes that got Ciara her stardom. “Fantasy Ride” entertainins at first, but this “Ride” is sure to get old quick.
