Massive Computer Virus To Be Released Tomorrow

Don’t let the joke be on you this April Fool’s Day. The Conficker Worm virus is scheduled to go live tomorrow, 4/1/09. While computer experts are not sure of the details of the virus, it is clear that if your computer gets infected you’ll be fighting a nasty battle. The worm can bypass some security defenses and access your computer to steal passwords, credit card information and infect it with pop-ups.
Here are some tips to keep your computer safe:
1. Run a windows update (although this has caused some problems for people) and a full system scan with your current antivirus software.
2. Backup all of your information if you haven’t already done so.
3. Stay clear of unsecured networks.
4. Be sure that your antivirus software is enabled. The virus has the ability to disable your protection.
Oh, and turning off your computer until April 2nd will not prevent the virus. Sorry.
Hopefully this will blow over like Y2K. We’ll see on April 2nd.
