AMC Theaters Adding New 3-D Screens
AMC Entertainment and digital 3-D vendor RealD on Thursday announced a deal to place 1,500 3-D systems in AMC theaters throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The installations already have begun. The deal brings RealD’s network of committed 3-D screens to 8,000, though only 2,600 of the systems are operative to date.
“Audiences are seeking a new and truly engaging form of entertainment,” RealD CEO Michael Lewis said.
Kansas City, Mo.-based AMC operates 4,678 screens in 309 theaters in five countries.
“Our intent is to feature at least one (3-D) screen in every AMC theater,” AMC CEO Gerry Lopez said.
