Your City Cincinnati :: Reality Show on Performing Arts school opens to rave reviews

Just about everyone in Cincinnati were tuned in to MTV’s new reality show, “Taking the Stage,” which premiered Thursday night. Following the lives of five high school seniors attending The School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), the reality show is the brainchild of SCPA alum, Nick Lachey. Often touted as a school that has produced a number of famous performers, “Taking the Stage,” gives a glimpse of the talent and dreams that live in one of Cincinnati’s best kept secrets.
As an unofficial alum of SCPA, (I went there from grades 4-8) I was quite surprised at how Hollywood the school was made to look. For one, the show mainly focuses on the dancers and one singer, but that school has a number of talented students in drama, vocal music, creative writing, art– the list goes on. Additionally, we NEVER had any dance offs in the lunchroom. The school security guards were on it and anything perceived as too rowdy was immediately shut down. There were talent shows held at SCPA but I must admit I don’t recall any record producers being present. I guess MTV had something to do with that.
Nonetheless, many TV critics gave the show pretty good reviews. LA Times TV critic Robert Lloyd’s review of the show ends with him declaring “he pretty much loved the show.” So maybe it’s just me, I could be a little bias. We’ll have to keep watching to see if this show gets any realer or more Hollywood by the episode.
what kinds of arts for the arts school student will show ? Whatever, seems like this idea will capture a lot of people’s eyes. MTV also will come, really?
