With one of the biggest retail names in electronics going out of business it seems like everyone’s desire of owning their dream tech toy has come true—but not so fast. Apparently customers buying items at many of the Circuit City locations that are having these huge going out of business sales are going home with damaged merchandise.

According to the latest from Yahoo! News, stories from upset shoppers are flooding news stations because of a faulty Circuit City policy: customers can’t open sealed boxes to inspect the merchandise until they get home. And many are disappointed in what they see. What family reportedly bought a 50-inch plasma TV for $1,500 only to get home and find the contents to be shattered. The store refused to refund their purchase and directed them to a Circuit City headquarters call center, where the phone just rang and rang.

A Boston customer experienced the same thing, only to get refunded by her credit card company, after the local news station investigated on her behalf. Expensive items aren’t the only damaged goods being sold to customers… Take a look at this chewed up video game that was allegedly sealed in the case and sold to an unsuspecting customer in this very condition. So the next time you’re out looking for a deal, buyer beware!
