Hip Hop fans are patiently waiting for the highly anticipated release of the movie “Notorious” and with the release just weeks away, director Bob Teitel reveals to fans what to expect from the movie based on the late Biggie Smalls.
In a recent interview on National Public Radio, Teitel stated that the film will offer fans a close look into the life of the greatest rapper of all time before and after his rise to fame. Teitel also discussed initial difficulties he faced in trying to capture Biggie’s life.

“It was an interesting film,” Teitel said. It was actually one of the toughest films we had to tackle because Christopher Wallace a.k.a. Notorious lived a short life but he lived a very rich life and to try and capture that in a biopic, it was a challenge.” Teitel also revealed that he offers viewers a different side of the late emcee. “Our challenge was to bring a lot of events that a lot of people didn’t really know about and we touch on the East Coast, West Coast vibe a lot, too,” he added.
“With Sean Puffy’s character and Notorious, you get to see how these two kinda rose to the top with each other, definitely Puffy needed Christopher Wallace and Christopher needed Puffy and as a team they were unstoppable.”
Teitel is known for his other hit making films like Barbershop and Soulfood. He described how his film career was inspired by the rapper.

“For George [Tillman] and I, we made our first film in Chicago,” he explained. “And we drove to L.A. with $600 between us and one CD, and that was Notorious B.I.G., Ready to Die.”
The soundtrack will be released three days prior to the film’s release and will feature demo recordings from Biggie’s early days as well as the new bangin’ single from Jay-Z “Brooklyn Go Hard.” THAT SONG IS BANANAS!
The movie is scheduled to be released on January 16th, 2009. You already know FlyPaper will be in the building to check it out.
