Common: Obama will change hip-hop

The man who’s believed to change the world is said to change music as well. With President-elect  Barack Obama scheduled to take the Oval Office next month, Rapper Common said hip-hop will never be the same. Common, who’s album, “Universal Mind Control”, hit stores this month believes that hip-hop is a reflection of the times and that artists will pick up on the new vibe the Obama administration will give off.

In a CNN interview Common said, “I think hip-hop artists will have no choice but to talk about different things and more positive things, and try to bring a brighter side to that because, even before Barack, I think people had been tired of hearing the same thing.”

The Chicago native may be right in a few aspects. Just about everyone in the rap game has acknowledged Barack Obama as our new leader and the man of change.

FOR MORE ON THIS STORY AND MORE…

When Jim Jones appeared on 106 & Park, Nov. 5 (the day after Election Day), he played with the idea of eliminating “nigga” from his vocab altogether and replacing the endearing epithet, “that’s my nigga” to “that’s my Obama.”

Sound silly? But remember what hip-hop started as… It started as an opportunity for the oppressed to speak out against the wrong that was being done. We’ve accomplished that with hip-hop. Now it is time to move onto bigger and better things. There’s more to life than the fast cars, clothes and women. After all, we do have a black president.

Polaroid announces it will cease production of instant film

With the digital age taking the world by storm, Polaroid has decided to call it quits. Well, not exactly. The company has announced it will stop production of Polaroid cameras and instant film but are expected to continue to sell them through 2009. After that, the iconic white framed film that captured the world’s interest 60 years ago will be no more. Expect prices to increase as many rush out to buy what’s left of the instant film. Sorry, Andre 3000 you’ll only have a limited time to “shake it like a Polaroid picture.”

Michael Jackson’s famous glittery glove up for grabs

It was the glove that started a movement. First unveiled back in 1983 in Michael Jackson’s hit video, “Billie Jean,” Jackson’s silver glitter glove will now be up for sale. Scheduled to be included in an April 2009 auction, the glove will not be the only thing the King of Pop will be selling. Jackson will be opening his doors to the Neverland Ranch and selling more than 2,000 personal items in a five-day auction. Bids will be accepted online and in person. The sale is scheduled to be broadcast live on Auction Network.
