President of Def Jam Shakir Stewart to be laid to rest today!

Shakir Stewart will be laid to rest today, Friday November 7th at King’s Chapel at the college he graduated from in 1996, Morehouse College. Service will begin at 3pm for those who plan to attend.
Stewart was found dead in his home in Marietta, GA after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Stewart received the position at Def Jam as Executive Vice President by L.A. Reid back in June of this year, after the post was vacated by Jay-Z. Stewart was responsible for signing acts like Young Jeezy, Rick Ross and Karina Parisian. He also is the Co-Executive producer of BET’s upcoming reality series, Brother to Brutha, as well as the Executive Producer on Brutha’s soon-to-be-released debut album.
He leaves behind a finance and two children.
A website dedicated to Stewart has been launched recently www.shakirstewart.com and the family has asked to please make a charitable donation to benefit Shakir and Michelle’s children, Micaela and Sebastian Stewart through ”The Shakir Stewart Memorial Fund.”
This truly hurts my heart right now! When I first heard the news about Shakir commiting suicide, I could not believe my ears! This man had so much going for him at the age of 34 and he had come a long way. I got the chance to work with him when I interned at Def Jam in 2005 when he was an A&R. He will be deeply missed and our prayers and condolences go out to the Stewart family.
