HOOD NIGGA I HEAR YOU; YOU WANT TO BE A BETTER MAN :: by Big Yogi

Black Man
Post by Big Yogi

I know readers and my team are probably thinking what the hell am I doing but hey it’s a blog and this is what it is for.

Listen all of my hood niggas, or shall I say Black Men (who are believed to be lost). I am writing this for you and those that do not understand you. I know this should be something I should write on my own personal blog or myspace or something but I don’t have a myspace and I hope that this reaches at least one other person than myself.

Do you share my pain?

Studies and surveys and statistics may say that the Black Man has it the worst. Reports may say that we have the least chance at getting jobs. People may say that they fear the Black Man and that they are afraid of us because we are violent and wreckless….

But do they understand why?

But do they understand what we as Black Men go through?

Broken families, no fathers, no guidance but the streets, death, drugs, abuse, depression, sadness, VIOLENCE, & who do we have to look up to in our day to day. The absence of fathers to give us good examples of how to treat a woman. The weight of leading the way for our people in the blind. Distant from the examples of good men because those men were never in our lives.

I often wonder where I would be if I had a good example of a good man in my life, always taking the blame for not being good enough. Is it all our fault? How is my son gonna grow up with me trying to set a good example but never really knowing how to teach him. Seems no one cares about us, but that is where I see opportunity, and I know I’m not alone. There are others like me who want to change our lives and the lives of those who will come after us. I work to clean the slate and write a new history for Black men and Black boys whom we will pass the torch to. Hopefully they will know of no time when things were this hard, when the community was not together, and when there was no one to turn to for guidance.

For those of you who have good fathers, great mothers, or good people in your life to help give you direction, be blessed. For those who have grown up feeling alone and struggle to find the right path, I feel your pain and I commend you for changing your past, and charge you to change your future.

Some things to remember, the tribe is only as strong as its strongest warriors and also remember it may feel like the weight of the world is on our shoulders but we must work to be strong enough to carry it.

The ramblings of a someone trying to be a better man.
