FLYVIEW :: 6S Q&A

by Lady Kootore

In my opnion, some of these female rappers have fallen off. So who will step up to hold it down for the next female generation? Have no fear people, my girl 6S (pronounced Success) is coming with a style like no other. The young educated female from Akron, Ohio is a late bloomer to the hip hop scene, but you would never be able to tell by the way she flows. With her cool kids style of clothing and metaphorical words, this female is going to take the hip hop world by storm. I got a chance to catch up with 6S and chop it up with her.

LADY KOOTORE: First of all, let me say thank you for taking the time out to do this interview.

6S: The pleasure is all mine.

LK: When did u first fall in love with hip hop?

6S: I’m sort of a late bloomer as far as hip hop is concerned. I’ve always been in love with words… the power they have when used properly, double entandres, etc. Realizing that there was so much word play and different uses of vocal rhythm involved in hip hop is what really did it for me. In order to be a dope rapper, you have to have a certain level of intellect.

LK: How did you manage to get on Lebron James’s label? What is the name of the label?

6S: Contrary to popular belief, Dreamlife is not owned by LeBron James. He’s definitely a friend of the Dreamlife family but the label is actually owned by Richard Paul (also of LRMR marketing). We all knew (or at least knew of each other) from being in the same circles. The heads of Dreamlife got a hold of this little mixtape I did at the beginning of this year and contacted me. The vision that they had for me was similar to what me and my manager, Hustle Simmons, had so it all just flowed together.

LK: Where did the name 6s come from?

TO FINISH THE Q&A WITH ARTIST’ 6S….

6S: I was actually writing an article for the business school at The Ohio State University (shouts out to all my fellow Buckeyes) and I was using “6S” as an abbreviation for “Six Sigma”, which is this principle based around quality. I thought “hey.. 6S… that’s like success… that’s pretty dope”. So I just ran with it. I wish I had a better story but that’s actually how it happened.

LK: What makes your style different from other female rappers?

6S: I think it stems from the fact that I’m different that a lot of people. Period. Throughout my life I’ve been exposed to so many different cultures and lifestyles that I’ve become a culmination of all of those things. I’ve never held cocaine in my bra so I can’t rap about that. I choose to talk about the things that I know. Right now my life is all about having fun and I think that is reflected in my music.

LK: What projects are you working on right now?

6S: Right now we’re really focused on promoting the single “Never Matching”. It’s a little different than what people are used to hearing but the response that we’ve received so far has been really positive. At the same time, I’m working on my album. I’m about 6 songs in. I’m really trying to focus on doing the RIGHT records instead of just doing a bunch of songs and picking the best ones.

LK: How would you describe yourself, swagnificant or stylerific?

6S: First of all, I think people have run a train on the word “swag” to the point where it really doesn’t mean much anymore….

But I really can’t say that I’m “swagnificant” nor “stylerific”. All I can do is be myself and hope the people appreciate what I have to offer.
