SINGER, and SONGWRITER ISSAC HAYES Dies at age 65

POST by Lady Kootore

First Bernie Mac, now the great Isaac Hayes.  This has been a sad weekend.  Singer, songwriter, grammy award winner and musician Isaac Hayes died this afternoon  the age of 65.  A family member found him near his treadmill unresponsive and he was pronounced dead an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, according to the sheriff’s office.  The cause of death was not immediately known.

In the early 1970’s, Hayes laid down the groundwork for disco, for what later became urban-contemporary music.  Hayes was also a rapper before rap came on the scene.  HOW REAL IS THAT!  In 1997, he became the voice of Chef, the sensible school cook and devoted ladies man on the animated TV show South Park

Steve Shular, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said authorities received a 911 call after  Hayes’s wife and young son and his wife’s cousin returned home from the grocery store and found him collapsed in a downstairs bedroom.  “The treadmill was running but he was unresponsive lying on the floor,” Shular said.

Hayes will never be forgotten for the No. 1 1971 hit theme from the film Shaft starring Richard Roundtree.  That song had the longest intro that I have ever heard of.  He is also known for his bald head, gold chains and loud clothes.  This is a sad day in the world of music.  We at the Fly Paper send out our prayers and condolences to the Hayes family.
