OBAMA boosts his Foreign Policy REP

Post by T Cole contact flytcole@flypaperblog.com

Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama embarked on an international congressional “fact-finding” tour over the weekend. His tour included stops in Afghanistan, Kuwait City, and Baghdad.  While it formally had a different purpose, it is well known that this tour is designed to burnish Obama’s foreign policy credentials.   He has received major criticism for his policy in Iraq. Sen. Joseph Lieberman states “If Barack Obama’s policy in Iraq had been implemented, he couldn’t be in Iraq today…. [Obama] was prepared to accept retreat and defeat.”

Obama has taken a different focus on the war against terror. The U.S. Senator has pledged steadfast aid to Afghanistan, and is less focused on Iraq. He is confident that Afghanistan is the centerpiece of the strategy for dealing with terrorism threats from the likes of Taliban and al-Qaida.

He has vowed to pursue this war with vigor. In a joint statement with his colleaugues, Obama has stated Our message to the Afghan government is this: We want a strong partnership based on ‘more for more’ — more resources from the United States and NATO, and more action from the Afghan government to improve the lives of the Afghan people,” citing the need for urgency and determination in this aspect of the war.  Obama is not backing down, he is redirecting. Which is a strategy that has not much been explored by present administration.
