The 8th Annual BET Awards aired last night, and I must say..I was somewhat disappointed that I had to stay up past 11 to watch the show, but hey my FlyPaper duties call.

DL Hugley was terrible as a host. His jokes were dry and downright not funny at times. Can someone please start a petition to bring Katt Williams back next year? Thank goodness MC Lyte was there to help him out. Celebs were in full effect and most were dressed to kill. Some of my favorites of the night were Alicia Keys ,who rocked the hell out of a super-feminine pink dress, Lauren London, whose shoes were to-die-for, and last but certainly not least NIA LONG! Nia was the epitome of a goddess last night, and definitely sent a message out to all the younger ladies. Step your game up!

As far as the men go..I wasn’t impressed at all. They all looked like they just left a family reunion together.

On to my favorite part of the show..THE PERFORMANCES! Usher opened the show and proved for once and for all that he just doesn’t have it anymore. Seriously he sucked. All Usher fans should be thoroughly disappointed. Another big miss for the night was Nelly, who was joined by Fergie and Ciara. Then there was T-Pain who did some kind of circus freak madness. I’ll be honest, his performance may have been really good but I actually changed the channel when I saw all those costumes! Finally there was Ms. Diva and Ohio’s favorite (pure sarcasm here), Keyshia Cole. She started out cool, but fell downward when she stripped down into a white, one piece, cookout at the park outfit, and attempted to dance.

There were several performances that were big hits for the night, the first being Alicia Keys who brought the house down when she was joined on stage by SWV, EnVogue (all 4 of them!), and TLC! Although Alicia looked a little like Laura Croft, I still stood on my feet and applauded at the end. Neyo was also a pleasure to watch. His fluid dance moves and all around swag put Usher to shame. Chris Brown definitely entertained. Breezy did an X-rated, baby-makin’ dance with who I though was a random chick, and later realized was Ciara. Just an aside..Chris and CeCe stole those dance moves from So You Think You Can Dance. No lie. Chris’ boo Rihanna shined on stage too. I have to commend her for her consistency and her BANGIN’ costumes.

Another favorite was the Al Green tribute. I was two-stepping in my living room to the RIDICULOUS tribute performed by Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, and Maxwell. The record breaking, milli man, Lil Wayne closed the show. Weezy maintained his constant intensity, although he appeared a little um..out of it. I’ve heard others say they were disappointed by his performance, but hey I’m a big fan. Call me biased.

Overall the show was just less than stellar, but entertaining nonetheless. Don’t worry if you missed the show. It will air another 280 times this month, the first being June 27th
