It’s not an easy task to follow in footsteps in a Superstar that is a Big name in the music industry…especially when you both Sing and are the younger sibling. SOLONGE KNOWLES was in the capital city this past weekend along with Raheem Devaughn & Chrisette Michele for the “Art of Love Tour“. You may not think that Solange could compliement those kinds of artist but I must tell you..broke foot and all, she showed that there is a different side to B’s little sister this time around. I had the opportunity to speak with Solange after her heart felt performance.

NVus: What’s Really Good Solange? (I said before I sat down)

Solange: Hey…Please watch the foot…*laughs*

NVus: First things first let’s talk about the foot. You broke it a few weeks back in Kansas City how is it feeling and what’s the latest?

Solange: My foot hurts…but I won’t let that take away from what I am capable of doing on stage. Even as I sat in the chair tonite I still gave it my all. The biggest thing I hate about my foot being broke is my vanity…*laughs* It’s not very fashionable. The doctor says I should stay off of it but, I love music to much to let a broken foot or anything get in my way of singing. My vocals helped me alot tonite and the fans that got up and danced & partied for me…*laughs” since I couldn’t.

NVus: Speaking of the Concert, How did you deal with the Heat tonight? I know you being from Texas you are used to these kinds of conditions.

Solange: *laughs* yes it was Hot. But I won’t let heat stop my performance. I feel like a hot mess..*laughs* That’s why I like to tour in the summer because in Texas it gets too Hot. The one good thing about the heat, as a singer it is good for your vocals..so thats the plus I guess…*laughs*

NVus: So How has it been becoming a mother and how is your son doing?

Solange: *points* He’s actually here with me. Me and My son’s father split time between him….so sometimes he goes on tour with me for a few weeks and sometimes he goes and spends time with his dad. It’s really special that I get to see him as I go on these tours. I get to keep my eye on him…the only problem is getting him to school and not letting him distracted by other things…*laughs* It’s funny he learned how to play “Hot hands” with some of the band members today…*laughs*. I love him to death..I have grown a lot since he’s be born.

NVus: Speaking of Growth I have heard one of your new songs “Sandcastle Disco” and I’m hearing a different side of you. Tell me a little bit about the new Album and also the new sound.

Solange: *Smiles* I am very excited about my new CD. It does feel like I am a new Solange…*laughs* if that’s what you want to call it. See the first time around (the first Album) there were a lot of Politics and other things that were out of my control. This time I got to be more hands on and felt like a change was needed. I wanted to develop a new sound, be more inventive & fashionable.

There is music out there for the club, for you car & about love….don’t get me wrong I love those kind of songs…I want my music to have a message behind it and be stuck in your head for a long time. I’m only 22 years old I got a long way to go but for now at this point in my life I like the direction I am going in. My fans should love my new album…and I hope to gain new ones along the way.
