Ricardo Conley , age 27,was arrested and rearrested this week for the now murder of 25 year old Nevin Cousin, Jr. on Sunday morning. The incident took place in the South Campus Gateway parking garage at bar closing time. 10Tv reports that Cousin was involved in a fight with a friend on Conley’s on the third floor of the parking deck that night. Conley shot Cousin in the neck shortly after that altercation. Cousin was rushed to the hospital where he remained in critical condition until early Wednesday morning. Conley later turned himself in, but was released on bond. He was rearrested Wednesday, following the death of Nevin Cousin Jr. Surveillance in the parking garage captured both the fight and the murder.
Conley returned to court this morning, now facing charges of murder. An explosive courtroom scene was captured by the media after the judge set Conley’s bond at $250,000. The family began to scream and yell out at the possibility of Conley being released from jail. The victim’s family had to be escorted from the courtroom following an emotional outburst.
This area near campus is no stranger to crime and violence. Crimetracker 10 found 52 crimes in that area just this past week including 13 assaults, four break-ins and one robbery. The majority of the assaults took place between midnight and 3 a.m. The facelift given to the area has done nothing to improve the safety there. South Campus Gateway Management reports that they have 24/7 onsite security and will be evaluating ways to make the parking deck and surrounding area more safe. Can’t we all just get along!?! We hope that this and other efforts to keep the campus area and all Columbus areas safe are successful. A night of fun doesn’t have to end in tragedy.
Flypaper gives our sincere condolences to the family of Nevin Cousin, Jr.
