Flo-Rida’s “Mail On Sunday” Album Review

Review by NVus

With the emergence of Southern rap is it well documented that States like Atlanta & Texas have some of the premier artist in Hip Hop. But wait what about Florida? DJ Khaled says it all the time “We The Best” and with that statement he means FLORIDA. Flo-Rida is one of those emerging rap stars from the Sunshine State. With that gritty yet sometimes do it for the ladies flow, Rida takes us on a journey through Florida with his debut Album “Mail on Sunday”.

Of course we have all heard Flo’s first single “Low” featuring T-Pain and have wanted to make that song out to be what he’s all about…but this is not so. A lot of Rappers get that taste of FAME and need that club banger to keep their head above water. The Next Single “Elevator” feat. Timbaland didn’t help his identity any & was at best a sub-par effort to follow up on his already herited club success. The Good thing for Flo-Rida is that “Low” was the Number 1 Digital Single of all-time, and with that said maybe he can move on and be the Flo-Rida his loyal fans are used to.

With the Club bangers already out of the bag here’s what else I found out about Flo-Rida’s Album “Mail On Sunday”.

Through out the album you can tell Flo has some lyrical talent that has not really been displayed on either one of his singles. His song featuring Lil’ Wayne called “American Superstar” is a prime example of that gutter, Mixtape Flo-Rida his fans are used to. Him and Wayne go back and Forth bragging and boasting that gangster Life which goes so well with the Beat. Ack Like You know also showcases Flo’s talents as he comes all out and just rhymes over the beat somewhat nonchalantly, but flows very well with his bullet out of a gun delivery.

Tracks like Ms. Hangover, Me & U and Freaky Deaky (feat. Trey Songz) are all tracks where he talks to the females through song. They are all pretty laidback tracks which shows the LL side of Rida. “In The Ayer” feat. Will.I.Am has a Kurtis Blow, Ol’ Skool like bounce on the beat which could have easily replaced either one of his first two singles. “Money Right” feat. Rick Ross & his homie Brisco gives you some insight to what Florida’s Future might look like down the line. “Don’t Know How To Act” featuring Yung Joc has a Indie sound, with both MC’s rambling about what MONEY can make you do…”I’m in the club, kush got it burning up/I’m Poppin’ Bottles & I’m f**kin’ up they furniture”. sounds about right.

All-in-All I must say Flo showed me a lot with this Album, some things GOOD some BAD. This Album was loaded with Fabulous production & Superstar features…too many for a debut Album. People tend to rate you on your first Album for the rest of your career and with a featured artist on almost every track, it may hurt Flo-Rida’s success in the Future. This was a rollercoaster from Start to End. With most of the Album having club & lovey dovey songs it’s hard to put Flo-Rida in a certain category or even in an elite class. At The End of the Day I see Flo-Rida making Hit Songs more than anything else and “Mail on Sunday” is my proof. I give “Mail On Sunday” 2.5 Wings.
