Missing Ohio Marine Reported Dead

Reports from Jacksonville, NC revealed today that pregnant and missing Ohio Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead. This comes just hours after the press was reporting that she was believed to have disappeared purposely. There was a bit of controversy surrounding Lauterbach (pictured above), at the time of her disappearance regarding a rape allegation that she made against a senior officer. The young woman’s stepmother stated that Lauterbach was “bipolar and had a history of compulsive lying”. There is some speculation, however, that the birth of her child may have confirmed her claim. Authorities have not yet recovered a body, but suspect that it is in a shallow grave. Her cell phone was found near the military base’s main gate shortly after her disappearance and her abandoned car was also found some time later. Her roommate< Daniel Durham is believed to be the last person to speak with her and was ordered to return from a training in California to answer some questions, but he was stated not to be a person of interest in her disappearance. Onslow County authorities are seeking the accused senior officer for questioning in this matter, and his whereabouts are unknown at this time. Lauterbach, originally from Dayton, Ohio, was 8 months pregnant at the time she went missing.
